"And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of." "Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend for ever?" 2 Chronicles 20:7

"But thou, Israel, art My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend." Isaiah 41:8

"And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God." James 2:23

His name appeared eleven times in the Sciptures. Nine times in the Epistle to the Hebrews, once in Genesis and once in Psalms.

It was mentioned in Genesis 39 four times that the Lord was with Joseph (vv 2, 3, 21, 23). Six times Joseph's hand were referred to (vv 3, 4, 6, 8, 22, 23). He was indeed "a prosperous man" (v2), "a goodly person, and well favoured" (v6) and "which he did, the Lord made it to prosper" (v23).
