"
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" Matt 28:19
"
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" Matt 12:40
"
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core" Jude 11
The physical realm has three dimensions. Three then stands for what is solid, real and substantial. It implies fullness and actuality. Three denotes
divine testimony, manifestation and
perfection.
The Godhead has three Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence are the three great all-embracing non-communicable attributes of God. The Seraphim declared the perfect holiness of God, crying "
holy, holy, holy".
In the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temple of Solomon, three is stamped upon their architecture and their furniture. For example, the holy of holies of both structures is a cube. There are three main sections in both structures.
The cycle of time has three divisions, past, present and future. The three virtues of a believer are faith, hope and love. Every activity of man can either be thought, word and deed.
Three is the number of
resurrection foreshadowed in the third day of creation when dry land emerged out of the water. It is also forecast in Jonah when he was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
The three-fold enemy, the devil, the world and the flesh are
complete manifestation of evil. The completeness of temptation lies in the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. The summation of apostasy are described three-fold, the way of Cain, the error of Balaam and the gainsaying of Core.
The Lord Jesus said, "
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life" denoting
full and complete testimony of Who He is. There are three offices of Christ, showing His perfection. In the past, He was the Prophet. Presently, He is the great high Priest. He will be King in the future. The completeness of His Shepherd care is seen in His three titles, the Good, the Chief and the Great Shepherd.
